New brewery plant to be built in Zambia

Beer Zambia breweryZambian Breweries Plc has begun building a US$90 million plant in Copperbelt town Ndola that, upon completion, will become the largest facility of its kind in the country

Equipment for the brewery, which will produce 100 million litres (267 million bottles) per annum, has started arriving from Germany with production expected to commence at the site in mid-November 2012.

According to Zambian Breweries technical director, Franz Schepping, meeting demand was the biggest challenge facing the firm.

‘’We are enjoying increased market demand and have to ensure we satisfy it,’’ Schepping remarked.

Building the new facility, which will have a larger capacity than the firm’s brewery in Lusaka, will form part of the solution to the supply constraint challenge.

Beer consumption in Zambia increased 15 per cent in 2010 and was up 31 per cent last year. Zambian Breweries accounts for approximately 90 per cent of beer output in the country.
