African airlines increase number of Mumbai and Dubai flights

South African Airways (SAA) will increase its 222-seat Mumbai to Johannesburg service from five to seven flights a week from 3 October 2012

The non-stop daily service from Mumbai to Johannesburg has already been scheduled to increase to six flights a week from mid-August. The seventh flight, however, will remain subject to government approvals.

SAA country manager for India, Sajid Khan, said, “The positive response to our fifth and sixth flights has spurred on the need for an additional flight.

“This increase in frequency is a testament to our commitment to this market, giving customers the option of a direct flight between Johannesburg’s Tambo international airport and Mumbai any day of the week.”

SAA remains the only carrier to offer non-stop services between South Africa and India after Jet Airways discontinued its operations on the sector in June 2012.

Kenya Airways, meanwhile, has strengthened its presence in the UAE by launching an additional three flights a week from Dubai to Nairobi.

The additional flight will complement a daily flight already being operated between the two destinations by Kenya’s flag carrier.

Abraham Joseph, Kenya Airways area manager for the Gulf, Middle East and Pakistan, said, “The UAE is an important market for Kenya Airways and we are proud of the additional service.

“The new service will provide excellent timing, greater convenience and flexibility for business travellers and tourists,” he claimed.
